What We Believe
At Kid Talk we are passionate about creating healthy individuals and families and do to that by helping parents be strong and healthy caregivers to their children. We can help provide a deeper understanding of your child and learn new ways support your child through their growth and development. Each child is unique and is wired differently and by understanding how your child ticks can help find a parenting style that creates a happier relationship with your child. We think of counseling as helping find the missing puzzle piece to learning how your child functions. Once we find it, everything else falls into place.
How do we find the missing puzzle piece? A child uses play as their natural language to express themselves and through this language of play a counselor can connect with a child. Through this playful environment, a child can open a door into their world to help the counselor and parent gain insight about how their worries, things that make them happy, and their needs. With this information the counselor can help the parent gain insight about what the child might be needing and how child is expressing that need. Children often show others how they are feeling through behavior. Once you figure out what that behavior is really saying, you can meet the need and help the child no longer need that behavior. That is how we help children find healthier ways of communicating their needs and getting their needs met in way that creates a harmonious home environment.
The counselor and parent work as a team to help address issues that brought the child to counseling. As a parent/counselor team, we can help your child feel empowered to overcome struggles or circumstances such as divorce, separation, or traumatic experiences. Caregivers will also receive the tools and support to continue to help the child thrive at home within the family.
Although we focus on children, we also want to help adults. We specialize in trauma and helping adults overcome disruptions in their lives. We have specialized training in utilizing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) to help overcome traumatic experiences. These can include childhood experiences, fears, and anxiety in certain situations. We know that parenting is hard and parents want to be the best version of themselves. We offer support to parents to help them find the best version of themselves and feel confident in their parenting abilities. We love working with parents helping them find their joy in parenting!
