Fitz is our resident furry friend. Fitz went through special testing through Pet Partners where she passed with flying colors. Besides being adorable and fun she has also shown amazing qualities that has allowed her to become therapy animals. Being the overachievers she is, she passed her temperament exam with the highest possible marks. Our furry friend comes with our therapist Robi Heath to work for special visits to help kiddos, families, and staff at Kid Talk feel calm, safe, and happy.
Animals are helpful in a variety of ways. Being around an animal can cause changes on a hormonal level in your body which lowers your Cortisol (Stress Hormones) and increases Oxytocin (Feel Good Hormones). With this biological change in one’s body, a child or adult might feel more relaxed and calm. Also, petting an animal can lower blood pressure which again can create a relaxed feeling. It takes trust for a bunny to engage with a person so a child must first be able to calm themselves for the bunny to begin to know that person is safe and will not harm them. Bunnies have large amygdalas which is the fire alarm of the brain. When a bunny senses danger, their protective response kicks in and fires the amygdala. That fire alarm allows the bunny to quickly flee and seek shelter and safety. Bunnies are great tools in teaching families about trust, safety, and the brain.
We are pumped that we have special visits from this furry friend.
